Join Groups on LinkedIn to Build Your Network

Join Groups to expand your visibility, exchange information with others who share common interests, and make new connections.

LinkedIn encourages you to join and utilize Groups in one of its tutorials, as the best way to communicate with other LinkedIn members with whom you are not yet connected.

Groups offer a variety of features including Discussions (a forum to exchange information), Jobs (postings by companies and recruiters), Members (a listing of the Group members), Promotions (advertising for products and services), and Updates (updates on group activities).

Participate in Discussions to share your knowledge and expertise, and to learn from others.

If you share a Group with another LinkedIn member, you can send a direct message (LinkedIn email) to that member, even if you are not connected.

Group members show up in your searches, as they are considered part of your extended network.

You can join up to 50 Groups.  Join the largest and fastest growing Groups. Determine the settings for each Group as it meets your needs. If you want daily/weekly digests of activity in a Group, choose that setting. If you don’t want a lot of email from one or more Groups, do not select that setting.

You can find Groups in the Groups Directory, under the Groups tab in the menu at the top of your page.
